Critical Infrastructure Protection


Overview


Examine the intricacies involved in the protection of key resources and critical infrastructure affected by terrorist or natural disasters. Focal areas include impacts to: transportation systems, communication systems, emergency services, and government/business operations. As part of this course, individual FEMA certifications, IS-00821 – Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources and IS-00860 – National Infrastructure Protection Plan will be obtained.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Articulate the need for critical infrastructure identification and protection
  • Clearly articulate the definition of and the need for public /private partnerships in CIP
  • Describe the difference between the National Response Framework (NRF) and the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP)
  • Differentiate public and private responsibilities for critical infrastructure security
  • Describe the impact of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) on local response planning and execution
  • Differentiate between NIMS, NRF and NIPP
  • Describe the relationship between government and the private sector under ICS
  • Describe the attributes of critical infrastructure information (CII)
